Group music classes in the heart of the comox valley

(Jump right to classes)

Mission:

At Mountain Town, we believe that music belongs to everyone.

It is ours to experience, share and create. Our mission is to bring a joyful, creative and fresh approach to music education in the valley,  emphasizing play-based and student-lead learning in a flexible, engaging and culturally responsive environment.

Humans are meant to delight in the creative process of music making!

Our group classes build community and get students immersed in playing and singing right from the beginning. By emphasizing process over product we teach the way children and youth learn, spreading joy and building skills along the way.

Meet the Teacher + Teaching Philosophy 🎧

Georgina Davis, Music Director BMus & Mused, BCYC

Hi! I’m Georgina, a passionate teacher, songwriter, performer, studio musician, recording artist and the heart and brains behind Mountain Town Studio. I hold a bachelor of Music Performance and Education as well as a Bachelor of Child and Youth Care specializing in working with vulnerable children and youth. I’ve been teaching K-12 instrumental and vocal music in schools, studio and summer programs since 2015.

I am a trained Music as a Second Language teacher through the Music Will Foundation. I am also trained in the Modern Band and Musical Futures Movements.

I use researched based methods to engage kids and build serious skills in a joyful, low anxiety environment. My classes are fun and engaging from beginning to end and create competent, creative, expressive artists in the process. These creative artists are the fuel for the Joy Machine that is Mountain Town Music Studio.

Testimonials 🎀

β€œThere’s no one like Gina. As a teacher, her wit, enthusiasm, presentation and skill make her a singular sensation” - Julian Smedley, Faculty Chair for Music, Seattle Waldorf High School

β€œGina has been absolutely fantastic as a musical mentor for our daughter who is seven years old.  I grew up with the landscape of rigid piano instruction, and I wanted something different for Hannah; I wanted to instill an open and expressive love of music. Gina nurtures excitement, creativity, and avoids shame, or dogma. Every week my daughter runs with joy to her music lesson. I feel that Gina is not only a music teacher, but a wholehearted guiding adult that my daughter has come to know and trust.  Through working with Gina, we are bringing joyful music into our home” β€”Dr. Deborah Lisoway, parent

β€œThe gifts Ms. Davis brings to the art of teaching young adults are nothing short of incredible. As a teenager, our son had been a reluctant participant in choir classes for years. Her gentle yet persistent methods spoke to him, helping him connect his love of music with the experience of creating music. Now he happily sings for others and for himself, just for the joy of it”

- Jan Whittington, high school choir parent
